An illustrated account on the history and heritage of Devon's woollen industry.
For over six centuries the wealth and welfare of Devonians depended on wool. The story of the rise, decline and recent resurgence of the woollen industry in Devon will be intertwined with a case study of Moretonhampstead, drawing upon original sources recently found by Bill Hardiman.
Bill will be joined by Yuli Somme who will give a thought provoking talk about her work and her vision for textiles in the future.
"Yuli Sømme's business takes a reference to the ancient British law of burial in wool, bringing the concept up-to-date. In posing the question; has wool had it's day, she will be throwing light on the relevance of sheep farming today, evaluating wool against a global textile market."
